Altera Based Experiments

CPLD

The CPLD board I bought is here.  Vendor will send you supporting files – though the material is in Chinese.

The English translation of the board description is here: Altera CPLD learning board.  I will post translations of source comments as I work through them.

The board uses a 100-pin EPM240T100C5 Max II from Altera.  The device handbook is here.

 

I also got a hack board with a Max II:

The board uses a 144-pin EP2C5T144C8 Cyclone II from Altera.  The device handbook is here.

 

The larger board I bought, to support vision and image processing experiments, is here.

The board uses a 208-pin EP2C8Q208C8N Cyclone II from Altera. The device handbook is here.

 

This board has:

SDRAM : 256M BIT /or 32M byte

CFI_FLASH : 64M BIT / or 8M byte

SRAM :256K X 16 /or 4M BIT

On-board SD card interface

VGA output built in

Stepper Motor driver

A/D and D/A

Development Environment

These two chips are discontinued (more or less) so they are not represented in the device list of the latest Quartus II software.  The manuals call out version 9 or greater.  You do not seem to be able to get version 9 anymore and the downloads are 3+GBytes and take ages to install so I didn’t push my luck and went for Quartus II 10.1sp1.

Both Max II and Cyclone II are certainly in device list for 10.1sp1 so that is a safe bet for anyone else.
